Last Thursday evening my wife Margaret and I, fourth grade catechists, participated in an evening of Pie and Prayer for catechists and our Parish of St. Robert of Newminister in Ada, MI.
What a great idea. Our director of religious education, Teri Burns, facilitated a lectio divina prayer experience based on the Canticle of Zechariah (Luke 1:67-69).
Download Zechariah's canticle - reflectionFollowing the prayer we had the choice of a variety of pies, good conversation and sharing our ideas for teaching. It was a simple, relaxing and time for growing as a catechetical community.
Cindy Ritter, second grade catechist, said, "I like the time to center myself during this rushing and chaortic timeof year. It was a time to reflect and share with other catechists. The pie was a perfect ending to a spiritual and congenial evening."
Elizabeth Parker, sixth grade catechist, was asking herself "why did she yes". She finds herself so busy running the family houselhold. However, she was happy that she went. She feels that we need to force ourselves to stop the craziness and enjoy and give thanks for our blessings. It was a nice time just to slow down and enjoy the fellowship of other catechists.
